UNC Pembroke’s Spirit of the Carolinas Marching Band (SOTC) hit the road on Saturday, October 4, performing as the exhibition band at the third annual Timberwolf Throwdown marching band competition at Montgomery Central High School in Troy, N.C.

The event featured 11 competing high school bands representing nine counties across the region, as well as the host band. As the exhibition performance, the Spirit of the Carolinas captivated the crowd with their 2025 field show, “A Light in the Dark.” The show features high-energy arrangements of “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ’Em Up)” by Fall Out Boy, “Lights” by Ellie Goulding and “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga.

After their field performance, the SOTC kept the excitement going by performing selections from their game-day setlist, showcasing the band’s trademark energy, precision and school spirit.

The band continued its busy fall schedule with a series of performances during Homecoming Week, including the pep rally and homecoming parade. They are scheduled to perform at halftime during Saturday’s football game against Shorter University.

Later this month, the SOTC will perform another exhibition at South Columbus High School on October 25, before returning home to energize the crowd during the Braves’ final regular-season football game on November 1.
